Letter to parents- sustainability walks

Room 3
St Anne’s School
23 May 2012
Dear Parents/ caregivers,
We have been talking about sustainability in our class this term and in particular we have been learning a lot about  trees. To finish off our unit, we will be having two walkabouts down Ferry Road. One visit will be to Trees for Canterbury in Charlesworth Street on Wednesday 6 June between 11am and 12.30pm. We will be going there to have a look at how Trees for Canterbury collect, plant and distribute plants and trees to the people of Canterbury. We will also be making ourselves familiar with several different native trees and what they look like. Steve Bush is a great communicator and he will be able to share a lot of  information  with the children. June 6 is Arbor Day so this is a great day to be visiting a nursery.
Then on Monday 11 June we will be planting trees with Andrew Crossland from the Christchurch City Council at the Charlesworth Reserve between 12 and 3pm. Children need to have jackets, their lunch, a drink and sneakers to take with them. This is so our children can take part in improving their local environment in a meaningful and practical way.
Please advise me if there are any problems I need to be aware of e.g.asthma etc.
Sincerely
Pam Grant
