                                Room 3 Newsletter      Term 4  2012

Dear Parents/ caregivers

Welcome back to the last term in 2012. This last term is always very busy and is only 9 weeks long this year!

The RE programme this term begins by looking at prayer and art, and then we will start our Communion of Saints strand. All Saint’s and All Souls days will both be discussed during class time. At the beginning of December the important time of Advent starts. Then it will be Christmas! We will be supporting the many children in our class who are making their First Holy Communion on 25 November 2012 at St John’s Church. The end of year liturgy led by Room 3, will take place on the last day of the term. Also we will celebrate our end of year mass which is a very special time at St Anne’s. We expect to see all our students at this Mass. We will inform you of the date and time closer to December.

This term our key idea is SYSTEMS. We will be focussing on the technology we use for making and packaging sweet treats for the elderly .As a finale to the unit of work Room’s 3 and 5 will visit a retirement village to pass some Christmas cheer on to the elderly.

For written language, our focus is Discussion writing and we will be presenting different sides of an argument. We will also be writing letters and cards when appropriate.

Our maths starts off with looking at fractions and percentages. This is an activity that students can further improve when sharing out and cutting up things like cakes or fruit at home. Then we will be studying Geometry-looking at shapes and their features until the end of the year.

Please take some time if you can to visit our class blog-stannes103 then click on Class Blog on the left side. Your added comments are  enjoyed by the children in Room 3 during IT time. We hope to do a class blog/photostory this term. The other classes at St Anne’s all have their own blogspots too. Your children know how to access them.

Our music and PE programmes will continue this term and children love these sessions. The Linfield Kiwisport will focus on Run, Jump, Throw . Group singing with Mrs Ohlshot is fantastic and these outside teachers are always so enthusiastic. They often say that they love working with St Anne’s children. As well, Room 3 and Room 4 will be presenting another end of year school liturgy on the last day so this is always a highlight for the class.

Homework will still be times tables, spelling and reading weekly. It is so great to see your continued help so your children can get this homework completed and handed in by Thursday morning.

At the end of the term students will all be taking home their school reports which are a comment on the student’s successes and their next steps. This is also when children will revisit their goals and see just what they have achieved.

Take care and God bless

Pam Grant
