                                Room 3 Newsletter      Term 2 2012

Dear Parents/ caregivers
Welcome back to another busy term in Room 3. I hope you are all rested and looking forward to an exciting term of learning together.
The RE programme will continue this term by looking at the rest of the Easter season which finishes at Pentecost. We have a parish and school mass that weekend so we hope to see you all there on Sunday. The musical was an outstanding success but it has put us behind with our strand work so after Pentecost, we will finish the Jesus Strand and get started on or God Strand.
This term our key idea is SUSTAINABILITY. We will be focussing on trees and why they are so important to our world. Hopefully if the weather is kind, we will be visiting Trees for Canterbury and helping to plant trees at the Charlesworth Reserve later in the term, as well as learning about native and introduced trees. I will let you know when this is happening closer to the time.
With written language, the focus for the school is Information Report and we will be writing different reports through the term. This year because the children are in Year 4 they need to complete Asttle tests so their knowledge and understanding can be compared with their peers in New Zealand- as required by National Standards. We will share your children’s results with you at report time at the end of the term.
Our maths starts off with the measurement of time- seconds and minutes, and length- metres and centimetres. The children may be investigating some of these concepts in their homework as well as doing spelling and reading weekly. Thank you for all the help you give to get this homework completed and handed in by Thursday morning.
To keep up to date with the classroom activities you may like to visit our blog-stannes103blogspot. You or your family are welcome to post comments at any time. It is great to share the blog with family in other cities or countries even!
Our music and PE programme are to be led by outside experts this term so ask your children what they are doing in these areas.
Looking forward to a term full of interesting things to do and learn. Let’s keep healthy by not spreading winter germs to others in the class. If you have sick children keep them at home please.
If I can help with any school problems contact me at school.

Take care and God bless
Pam Grant
